A new level of design flexibility

The trend towards lightweight structures in car body construction has made mixed assembly of lightweight and composite materials, such as Aluminum, polycarbonates, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics (CFRTP), a common strategy. Design innovation can’t come at the cost of safety, however, and OEMs are increasingly looking to our engineering team to help them solve this challenge.

Advanced Options for Joining

Our Sikaflex® Ultra High Modulus (UHM), one-component elastic polyurethane adhesive provides OEMs with an innovative alternative to spot welding body structures. It creates a new level of flexibility by allowing engineers to explore innovative uses of lightweight materials while ensuring they can comply with all of the requirements for crash-resistance and safety regulations.

Applications

  • Aluminum roof to steel body bonding
  • CFRP trim parts bonding
  • CFRP to Aluminum bonding

Benefits

  • Solvent-, Silicone-, PVC- and CO2-free
  • Cost reduction
  • Bodyweight reduction
  • Greater design freedom
  • Stable mechanical properties – over a wide temperature range
  • Excellent crash performance – better than spot welding in crash test simulations
