Milling of Models, Molds and other Manufacturing Tools
SikaBlock® stands for a wide range of specially formulated machinable board materials for the construction of design, styling, master and cubing models as well as various molds and other manufacturing tools.
In accordance with requirements, the materials differ in densities of 0.08 to 1.7 kg/dm³, in respect of their structure, as well as their mechanical and thermal characteristics. The boards are available in different dimensions and thicknesses up to 2400 x 1300 x 400 mm.
All board types allow fast machining with low dust very precisely using CNC milling. Since decades SikaBlock® provides benefical alternative solutions technically and/or economically versus traditional methods using wood or metal.
Application
Design and Styling Boards
Light PUR foam boards are most favored materials that designers prefer to work with to create shaped forms or styling prototypes/models. These specially formulated boards are offered from 0.08 to 0.45 g/cm³ density with optimum balanced mechanical properties and easy machinability with low dust.
Model and Medium Density Boards
Brown model boards in densities around 0.6-0.7 g/cm³ are the ideal material for making master models or molds for short series of parts. The medium density boards up to 1.0 g/cm³ complete the range to satisfy every preference of model/mold makers in mechanical strength, thermal resistance and of course surface aspect. Their high dimensional stability makes them suitable for checking fixtures, gauges, as well as for vacuum and prepreg molds.
Foundry and Tooling Boards
These boards in densities from 1.2 to 1.7 g/cm³ provide higher mechanical strength for their requirement in durability and abrasion resistance. These boards are cost effective alternative solutions to metallic patterns such as metal sheet stamping tools or foundry patterns and sand core boxes for coldbox.
