Sika Automotive announced on April 22, 2021 that their SikaPower-550® G Structural Adhesive for Automobile Assembly won a Bronze Edison Award. Named after Thomas Alva Edison, the Edison Awards have recognized and honored some of the most innovative new products, services, and business leaders in the world since 1987.

SikaPower-550® G adhesive combined the requirements of three separate Ford materials specifications into a single specification with compatibility to steel & aluminum. Along with this demanding challenge, a number of other requirements were also met: it was to be used in multiple areas of the body structure, including the hem-flange, necessitating inclusion of glass beads while maintaining crash durable performance; an improvement in open time; increased stress durability performance of the bond under constant static load in a corrosive environment; improved humidity resistance; engineered/formulated to cure within a lower bake temperature window.

“Sika Automotive is pleased to have been honored with a prestigious 2021 Edison Award recognizing our continued spirit of Innovation” says Greg Moran, VP & Head Sika Automotive Marketing. “We thank the organizing committee and the panel of judges for the recognition, as well as our customer Ford for pushing the continued frontiers in vehicle assembly utilizing advanced structural adhesives. Technology innovation has always been and will continue to be a leading pillar in our Sika strategy. This award is an excellent validation of the great work our teams perform every day to solve our customer challenges”.

SikaPower-550® G Structural Adhesive for Automobile Assembly was chosen as the 2021 Bronze award winner by panel of judges comprised of more than 3,000 senior business executives and academics.

“We were very impressed by the level of collaboration and discovery in this year’s entries,” said Edison Universe Executive Director Frank Bonafilia. “Somehow, while facing the unprecedented challenges of this global pandemic, companies around the world figured out how to work safely and smartly and still innovate at an award-winning level.”
