MADISON HEIGHTS, MI -- Sika Global Automotive proudly announces it has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Awards for automotive innovation.

Now in their 24th year, the Automotive News PACE Awards identify supplier innovations that have entered the market and are delivering measurable customer benefits. Sika's entry, SikaMelt®SF (Safety First) hotmelt lamination adhesive technology, has been selected as a finalist in the 2018 edition.

The SikaMelt®SF family of products are innovative low-monomeric isocyanate content hotmelt adhesives used for lamination applications in vehicle interiors. Based on a new generation of reactive polyurethane chemistry, SikaMelt®SF products contain lower levels of residual monomer than conventional adhesives in the market today. Lower levels of monomer help to address industry concerns currently associated with the handling of these types of products, making them safer and greener with focus on
sustainability initiatives.

In addition to safety and environmental benefits, SikaMelt®SF products deliver industry leading performance to stringent vehicle lamination applications.

Common, but challenging applications running successfully in the market include:

  • Press-lamination of foam backed textile to plastic carriers (pre-treated-PP, ABS, NF)
  • Carpet bonding to NF-PU carrier
  • Press-lamination of leather & synthetic leather to spacer fabric
  • IMG-lamination of TPO to ABS

"We are honored to have the PACE awards panel once again recognize Sika Automotive innovation. SikaMelt®SF technology is a direct result of our continued focus on the development and introduction of highly engineered adhesives that address safety, sustainability and industry concerns while also offering enhanced application performance to our valued customers. The SikaMelt®SF series of products are truly industry leaders in their category," said Greg Moran, Vice President - Head Global Automotive Marketing.

The 2018 PACE Awards are jointly presented by Automotive News, EY Ernst & Young, the Original Equipment Suppliers' Association (OESA) and SAE International. The winners are determined by an independent panel of judges and will be announced on April 9, 2018 at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.
